Every year has its lessons, but 2024?
It’s been a masterclass.
Imagine starting the year with one plan, only to find yourself in a completely different rhythm by mid-March. That’s been me—stumbling, pausing to rethink, and then taking another step. Just try shit is my motto. Just keep trying.
Against the backdrop of a world that feels increasingly chaotic and scary, 2024 has brought its own challenges and insights on a personal level. Here’s what the year has taught me so far.
Let your body lead
This year, I’ve been learning to listen to my body—really listen. My lungs demand that I pay attention and slow down, and my stamina isn’t what it used to be. Most days, that’s okay, although I still grieve the stuff I can't do: dancing, walking fast or up hills, swimming.... I’ve found ways to manage. Sometimes it’s belly breathing; sometimes it’s practicing another round of tai chi and sword form. Progress doesn’t have to look like a sprint, certainly not in my case.
Healing is not linear — no matter how hard I try!Â
Healing my gut, now that's been a party. But here’s the thing about healing—it’s not a straight path. I stopped looking at the calendar and instead started to look inward and develop some patience. That helps as the process continues to loop, dip, and too often return me to square one. Patience and consistency are the foundation of whatever healing is coming my way, and I'm delighted to have moments — and sometimes a whole day — where I'm feeling better.
Simplify for clarity
I’ve rethought how I work, and simplifying has been a revelation. Offering a single, Strategic Marketing call instead of too many options? Game changer. Clients get what they need, and I get to focus on delivering my best.
When I changed my website offer to just that single call, I wasn’t sure how it would go. Then came a healer who booked in, unsure if they even needed help. By the end of the hour, they not only had clarity about what they wanted and needed to do but also signed up for a package that would let me help them get there. Turns out, less really is more—for me and for my clients.
Connection drives progress
Working with clients this year has reminded me just how much connection matters. Whether it's through the stories shared in articles or the insights sparked in video chats, the magic happens in real, human moments—those aha moments when everything clicks, for me and for them. Building those connections is what keeps me showing up.
Rest fuels everything
I’ve learned to stop thinking of rest as optional. It’s not, not now. Whether it’s a nap in the middle of the day or a quiet moment in the garden, rest is where I reset and recharge. It’s where creativity grows. Honestly, I’m still working on this one, but I’m better for every time I choose to pause. Maybe it’s why I’ve managed to keep going, even as I wonder why I’ve lived this long and outlived my two younger sisters. Life is mysterious, and in my case long.
Long enough to get to be a grandma. Don’t know if I’ll get to teach her the beloved family card games, but that’s the goal. And she’s not yet two. Which makes spending time worrying about my napping habit a very silly waste of my time.Â
Closing thoughts
2024 has been about letting go of what doesn’t serve me, leaning into what does, and remembering that progress, healing, and success don’t look the same for everyone—or even the same for me from one year to the next.Join the conversation, build community
